Coverage Day Three (Olympic Day 7) | |
Dream Team or not, when I finally woke up on the couch after falling asleep in the first few minutes of the first period, the Evil Team Sweden had taken the lead 3 to 2... I don't really know that they are evil, but I definitely remember trouble everytime that a team USA has had to face them since Lake Placid in 1980. Well, I guess then it was the USSR team that was really trouble, but I kind of remember Sweden always being one of the best, but also for some reason, I have this memory of some cheap shots or something... Oh great now Sweden has a power play... This was going to be live coverage, but I guess there is somekind of relatively short tape delay for this "live" event... Ahh, Roenick fakes a hook, so no more power play... There is about 15 minutes left... Wait, only 12 minutes... Now power play for team USA... Ok, now Dr. Pudd (one of my cats...) has decided that I should be giving him more attention rather than the computer and has jumped into my lap... Dr. Heino (other cat...) has settled back on the couch... 10 minutes left... Still no changes... Let's see I watched most of the evening coverage, and they covered the men's downhill, and a bunch of people crashed because I guess a critical gate had been moved since the trial runs last week... One guy from Italy (I'm kind of bad with names, but it was like Cattaloni... Definitely a C name...) crashed and hurt his ankle... They showed the defending gold medalist Tommy Moe who came in 12th, but didn't show northern california local boy Kyle Rasmussen who came in 9th, but the local news showed a little bit of his run, and talked to his wife on the phone... I think she misses him... 6:38 remaining... Did you know that Sweden is the defending gold medalists? Back to downhill, a french guy was the winner... Mens short program ice skating was on, and only the Candeloro French guy kind of choked, he did the triple axel/double toe loop instead of the triple/triple that you have to do to really compete... Elvis (Canada) did good, so did Todd Eldridge (USA)... Less than five minutes left... I think the annoucers just said that even if team USA loses all of their initial games they can still win... I don't really remember if they covered other stuff this evening... I kind of don't think so, but ... Ok that was close team USA almost scored... I need a little TV window on the computer so I don't have to turn around to watch... Sweden just scored again! 4 to 2! 2:41 left... 1:30... Ok, I just found out that Sweden's 1994 gold was their first... Good USA shot, but blocked... 0:43 left... Ok, game over... Czech won also, I didn't catch who they beat... Another Norwedgian gold medal and world record in speed skating... In all fairness for the Dream Team thing, since the NHL draws on so many other nations for players, the whole Dream Team idea has really made several Dream Teams... Other stuff of interest... The second hand pot smoking Canadian snow boarder has his medal back... Due I think mostly because marihuana isn't explicitly mentioned in the rules... There is a local reporter that is testing the second hand smoke defense by taking a drug test, and then going to one of the San Francisco pot clubs and hanging out and then getting tested again... I'll keep you posted... IBM which has many nice technology of the games commercials also runs the official olympics website (www.nagano.olympic.org). I've been kind of taken in with the commercials... It seems like the olympics brings out a different kind of advertisement... I remember it was one of the 80's olympics where I learned about Beatrice Foods... I think I missed the child porn soup ads, but I saw the foster mom one, and lots of insurance adds... The TV is still on, and there is a kind of contest about who can be most glamorous: men or women... But of course they all look like women, and the audience is making guesses... I forget which host this guy is... Oh yeah, I think it is Maury Povich... I think I better go to bed... Laura will be back tomorrow...
