PDP is a design firm that specializes in print and web media. Headed by artist/designer Laura Hartwick and engineer Karl Ewald, PDP has a dual background in art and high tech.

Laura covers the design end, taking on projects as diverse as collateral identity and website design to illustration and magazine layout. Laura has also done interior and exterior signage, and designed for the multimedia industry.

An experienced programmer, Karl takes care of advanced HTML, Javascript, Perl Scripting, CGI programming, E-commerce on secure servers, FileMaker database scripting, Server Side Includes, streaming audio/video, music and audio.

We have a client list that includes Rolo San Francisco, Ziff-Davis Press, Lycos Press, Two Girls Walk Dogs, Boeger Winery, Motion Pacific, Petroglyph Ceramic Lounge, Grand Royal Magazine, Odwalla Juices, IRes Interactive Media, Otto Design Group and Bridgehead Interactive. Please take a look at a very brief on-line portfolio.

PDP also provides software training. We offer small, personalized classes in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, Quark XPress, and Understanding HTML. Classes are designed for marketing, managers, and others who need to communicate with designers on a regular basis but don't always speak the same language.

Laura (MFA, 1994) and Karl (PhD, 1997), are also practicing artists and also teach university level art classes. Here's a student project from the 1997 session of the California State Summer School for the Arts at CalArts where we team taught Digital Art. Click here for more information on CSSSA.
